« Back Revival of six lakes will help tackle water woes: Nirupam 11 Jan, 2010 To tide over the ongoing water scarcity, MP Sanjay Nirupam has proposed the revival of six major lakes in north Mumbai on a build, operate and transfer basis. Nirupam was approached by NGO Raichel Joseph Foundation which has been working towards revival of water bodies in the city to meet the demand for water.

The proposal suggests that six lakes in north Mumbai be handed over to corporates which will fund and carry out the revival of the lakes in two months and later hand them over to BMC to maintain and use lake water.

The companies will incur a cost of Rs 2 crore to Rs 4 crore in reviving each lake.

The Bhujal lake in Malad, Lotus lake on Malad Marve road, Charkop lake, Eksar lake in Borivali, Gaothan lake in Madh Gaon and another lake on the Malad Marve road will be adopted by corporate companies as a part of their CSR (corporate social responsibility) activities. They will revive the lakes by desilting, cleaning and use other biological and chemical methods to remove the growth of weed and algae in the lakes.
